When I’m REAL tired and worn , the last thing I feel like digging for is the one thing I need most:  a word of truth from the Bible.  The truths of the Bible set us free. These are some of my favs.  Double check them at Bible Gateway, they’ve been well-loved.  Mixed in here and there are also a few quotes.  NIV version unless otherwise noted.

II Cor 4:16-18AMP
Therefore we do not become discouraged (utterly spiritless, exhausted, and wearied out through fear). Though our outer man is [progressively] decaying and wasting away, yet our inner self is being [progressively] renewed day after day. 17For our light, momentary affliction (this slight distress of the passing hour) is ever more and more abundantly preparing and producing and achieving for us an everlasting weight of glory [beyond all measure, excessively surpassing all comparisons and all calculations, a vast and transcendent glory and blessedness never to cease!], 18Since we consider and look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen; for the things that are visible are temporal (brief and fleeting), but the things that are invisible are deathless and everlasting.

Heb 12:11AMP
For the time being no discipline brings joy, but seems grievous and painful; but afterwards it yields a peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it [a harvest of fruit which consists in righteousness–in conformity to God’s will in purpose, thought, and action, resulting in right living and right standing with God].

James 1:3
Be assured and understand that the trial and proving of your faith bring out endurance and steadfastness and patience.

I Timothy 6:6  Godliness with contentment is great gain.

2 Timothy 1:14
Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you-  Guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit that is in us.  Flee evil desires of youth {think about what those are for “youth”}, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

2 Timothy 1:7  God did not give us a spirit of timidity [fear], but a spirit of power, and of love, and of self-discipline. [amp: a calm, well-balanced mind]

Acts 20:24 However, I consider my life worth nothing to me if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord has given me–the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.

Colossians 1:29 To this end I labor, struggling with all his energy, which so powerfully works in me.  NIV

euteronomy 31:6 Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the Lord your God is the one who goes with you, He will not fail you or forsake you.

Deuteronomy 4:31 For the Lord your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon, or destroy you, or forget…

Ecclesiastes 7: 18,21-22 Do not be over-righteous.  Do not be overwise.  Why destroy yourself?  Do not be overwicked.  And do not be a fool–Why die before your time?  It is good to grasp the one and not let go of the other.  The man who fears God will avoid all extremes.  Do not pay attention to every word people say–for you know in your heart you yourself many times have cursed others.

Ecclesiastes 8:18  A man’s wisdom makes his face shine, and the hardness of his countenance is changed.

Ephesians 5:14 Wake up, O Sleeper, rise from the dead AND {my favorite word}  Christ will shine on you!

Genesis 15:1 Do not be afraid, Abraham.  I am your shield.  I AM your VERY GREAT REWARD.

Genesis 24:50 The situation is obviously from the Lord.  We can say nothing to you one way or another.

Heb. 13:15// Phil. 4:6-7 By Him, therefore, let us offer the sacrifice of praise continually, that is, the fruit of our lips.  //  Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer & petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God and the peace of God will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Heb.11:1 //  2 Cor. 9:8 Faith,
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for, and certain of what we do not see. //

God is able to make all grace abound to you.  So that in all things, at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

Hebrews 10:35-39 So, do not throw away your confidence, it will be richly rewarded, you need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.  For in just a very little while, He who is coming will come and not delay.
“But my righteous one will live by faith.  And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him.” But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved.

Hebrews 12:11-13 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful.  Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness {right standing with God, maturity, completeness} and peace {calm, freedom} for those who have been trained by it.
Hebrews 12:2-3 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher {he “finishes” my faith in what he did, and in what he does in my life} of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.  Consider him who endured such opposition…so that you will not grow weary and lose heart {if Jesus faced turmoil and hardship and emotion…so will I.  It’s a normal part of being an earthling.  See David.}.
Hebrews 13:1AMP Let love for your fellow believers continue, and be a fixed practice with you [never let it fail].

Hebrews 5:2 He is able to deal gently with those who are (1)ignorant and (2)are going astray, since he himself is subject to weakness.

HEBREWS 6:15 And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.

I Corinthians 10:23-24 AMP All things are legitimate (permissible) [and we are free to do anything we please], but not all things are helpful (expedient, profitable, and wholesome).  All things are legitimate, but not all things are constructive [to character] and edifying [to spiritual life]. Let no one then seek his own good and advantage and profit, but [rather] each one the other.

I Corinthians 16:9 a great door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many who oppose me.   V

I Peter 3:15   Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give reason for the hope that you have.  But do this with gentleness and respect.  Speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.

I Peter 4: 7-8AMP  But, the end and culmination of all things has now come near;  keep sound minded & self-restrained and alert therefore for [the practice of] prayer.  Above all things, have intense and unfailing love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins [forgives and disregards the offenses of others.]

I Peter 4:12-13 Dear friend, do not be surprised at the painful trails that you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you.  But, rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.

I Peter 5:10 After you’ve suffered a little while, the God of all grace [who imparts all blessing and favor], who has called you to [His] own eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will HIMSELF COMPLETE, MAKE YOU WHAT YOU OUGHT TO BE, ESTABLISH and GROUND YOU SECURLY, AND STRENGTHEN, AND SETTLE YOU.

(Note: this is AFTER we have “withstood the ‘roaring lion who seeks to devour us in a strong, immovable, determined, and established way”..) AMP

I Timothy 4:1AMP But the Spirit distinctly and expressly declares that in latter times some will turn away from the faith, given attention to deluding (watered down), and seducing (turn something away, capture attention) and doctrines that demons teach (what doctrine?  Self.  Humanism.  Self interest. Self care.  Self at the expense of others.  Not the servant nature Christ expressed, giving His life away).

I Timothy 4:8 Godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.

II Cor. 10:12-13AMP When they measure themselves with themselves and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding and behave unwisely.  We, on the other hand, will not boast beyond our legitimate province and proper limit, but will keep within the limits [of our commission which] God has allotted us as our measuring line.

II Cor. 11:17-18  However, let him who boasts and glories boast and glory in the Lord.  For it is not the man who praises and commends himself who is approved and accepted, but it is the person whom the Lord accredits and commends.

II Cor. 4:7-10 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels (or common jars of everyday clay), that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.  We are troubled on every side, YET NOT DISTRESSED.  We are perplexed, BUT NOT IN DESPAIR, persecuted, BUT NOT FORSAKEN, cast down, BUT NOT DESTROYED.  Always bearing about in the body the DYING of the Lord Jesus that the LIFE of Jesus might be MADE MANIFEST IN OUR BODY.

II Cor. 5:14-15 Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, therefore all died.  And He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

II Corinthians 4:17 Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold all things become new.

II Peter 3:8-9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promises as some understand slowness, but he is patient toward you, not wanting any to perish, but all to come to repentance.

II Peter 3:8-9 patience/repentance/eternal life
The Lord does not delay an is not tardy or slow about what He promises, according to some people’s conception of slowness, but He is long suffering [extraordinarily patient], not desiring that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.  AMP
God is more interested in the condition of my heart than in “blessing ” me as I may think of blessing.  He wants me to find freedom in Him and the fullness of life in that most of all.

II Timothy 3:16-17 All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

{God himself, creator of the universe…stooping down to be “helper” to us.  Amazing thought.}

Isaiah 28:16 See, I lay in Zion a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation;  the one who TRUSTS will never be dismayed.

Isaiah 28:23-29  “When a farmer plows for planting, does he plow continually?  Does he keep on breaking up and harrowing the soil?

When he has leveled the surface, does he not sow caraway and scatter cumin?

Does he not plant wheat in its place, barley in its plot; and spelt in its field?

His God instructs him and teaches him in the right way.  {see 27-28 where grain is made to “stick” to soil in different ways, through different treddings of the soil at different depths to make sure the next seed germinates}

Grain must be ground to make bread; so one does not go on threshing it forever.

This comes from the Lord Almighty, wonderful in counsel and magnificent in wisdom.”

{Some seasons seem to last forever, but take heart…God is growing something as it needs to be planted to produce fruit.}

Isaiah 40:31 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.  Even youths grow tired and weary.  Even young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.  They will mount up with wings like eagles.  They will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.   Isaiah 45: 2-3 Friend I will go before you and will
level the mountains.  I will break down gates of bronze and cut through bars of iron.  I will give you the treasures of darkness, riches stored in secret places, SO THAT that you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel who summons you by name.
The dark places have a purpose.   Secret treasures are there for us that will be deeply impanted as only the “darkness” can do, if we will “not waste our suffering“.

ISAIAH 49:16 See, I have engraved you on the palm of my hand.  Your walls are ever before me.

ISAIAH 49:25  I will contend with those who contend with you, and your children I will save.  Then all mankind will know that I, the Lord, am your Savior, your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.

Isaiah 50:7 Because the Sovereign Lord helps me.  I will not be disgraced.  Therefore have I set my face like flint and I know I will not be put to shame.  He who vindicates me is near.  It is the Sovereign Lord who helps me.  Who is he that will condemn me?  They will wear out like a garment;  the moths will eat them up.  Who among you fears the Lord, obeys the word of His servant?

James 1:2AMP Consider it pure joy [wholly joyful] whenever you are enveloped in or encounter trials of any sort or fall into temptations. Be assured and understand that any trial and proving of your faith bring out endurance and steadfastness and patience. But let endurance and steadfastness and patience have full play and do a thorough work, so that you may be a people perfectly and fully developed [with no defect] lacking in nothing.

James 1:5 Faith If any man lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.

James 1:8AMP For (the man who asks God for wisdom but doubts), is like a man of two minds, blown around like the waves of the sea, hesitating, dubious, irresolute, unstable, unreliable, and uncertain about everything he thinks, feels, decides.  Let not such a person imagine that he will receive from the Lord.

James 4:5-6 Or do you suppose that the Scripture is speaking to no purpose that says, ‘The Spirit whom He has caused to dwell in us yearns over us and He yearns for the Spirit to be welcome with a jealous love?’ (Jer. 3:14; Hos. 2:1) But he gives us more and more grace [note: unconditional favor and positive regard].  That is why He says, God sets Himself against the proud and haughty, but gives grace [favor] [continually] to the lowly (those who are humble enough to receive it)   NIV/AMP

James 5:7 So be subject to God.  Resist the devil [stand firm against him] and he will flee from you.  Come close to God and He will come close to you…realize you are wavering with disloyal interest, divided.  Purify your heart of spiritual adultery.  As you turn to God, be deeply penitent, and even weep [over your disloyalty].

Jeremiah 17:7-8 Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.  He will be like a tree planted by streams of water that sends out its roots by the stream.  It does not fear when the heat comes; its leaves are always green.  It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.

Ps. 1:2-3.  “My heart and my flesh MAY fail, but God is the STRENGTH of my heart and my portion forever.”

Lamentations 3:32-33 If he works severely, he also works tenderly.  His stockpiles of love are immense.  He takes no pleasure in making life hard, in throwing curveballs in the way.   (The Message)
LUKE 18:29-30  “I tell you the truth,” Jesus said to them, “no one who has left home or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God will fail to receive many times as much in the age and in the age to come, eternal life.”

Matthew 7:14/John 10:10  Narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few that find it.// The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy.  I have come that they might have life, and have it to the full.

Phil. 12:12-13 growth in faith

Work out-cultivate, carry out to the goal an fully complete-your own salvation with reverence and trembling [self-distrust, that is, with serious caution, tenderness of conscience, watchfulness against temptation; timidly shrinking from whatever might offend God and discredit the name of Christ]. [Not in your own strength] for it is God who is all the while effectually at work in you–energizing and creating in you the power and desire–both to will & to act, work for His good pleasure, satisfaction, and delight.

For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.

Several people have asked me if they can use or copy these scriptures for their own use. It’s the Bible, so feel free! However, If you want to memorize them or use them for study, I recommend looking them up “fresh” on http://www.BibleGateway.com to make sure you have an accurately transcribed copy for use.

Sorry for the the off topic comment. But, as we turn our hearts toward family and friends during the Christmas holiday, I wanted to let you to know that I am thankful for blessing of many new friends I’ve come to “know” here in blogland. The tie that binds us is our shared love for and devotion to the Savior whose birth we remember during this special time of the year. May your days be full of holiday blessings; and, may your heart be filled with the warmth of His presence.

My story is not a short one. i am currently in the middle of a turbulence and it seems so overwhelming. i have thought a lot of things with suicide being the least.
i have made decisions without seeking God’s perspective. and these decisions have landed me into serious problems. though sometimes, i feel like all hope is gone, but i still find solace in His word; “for all things work together for good to them that love God and are the called according to his purpose”
i pray about my situation but it keeps getting worse as the days go by.
i am wondering if i could share my life story with you… perhaps i could set myself a little free if i let people know about my problems. i know you have a lot in your hands answering to people’s emails but i am hoping that you would find sometime to listen out to me

i have read your blog and i’ve seen too many encouraging scriptures… Please keep up the good work and God bless richly
