.XXX Domain Controversy

“Domains will continue to hold their PG status, with the recent axe of the proposal to give adult Web sites their own “.xxx” domain.

The 9-5 decision by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers came nearly seven years after the proposal was first brought to the ICM Registry LLC table.

Both extreme sides of the debate, from adult-entertainment industry to religious groups, criticized the plan. Religious groups worried that it would legitimize and expand the number of adult-oriented sites; some in the adult-entertainment industry said the “.xxx” domain would “essentially ghettoize sexual information on the Web.” (Fox News: Full Story)

“Nearly all of the board members who voted against approving the domain said they were concerned about the possibility that ICANN could find itself in the content regulation business if the domain name was approved. Others criticized that, saying ICANN should not block new domains over fears like that, noting that local, state and national laws could be used to decide what is pornographic and what is not.”

“Religious groups worried that “.xxx” [a specific domain for “adult content” sites] would legitimize and expand the number of adults sites, which more than a third of U.S. Internet users visit each month, according to comScore Media Metrix. The Web site measurement firm said 4 percent of all Web traffic and 2 percent of all time spent Web surfing involved an adult site.” –Fox News (Full Story)

Do you think a “.xxx” domain was a good idea, or a bad one? Fox invites readers to E-mail www.speakout@foxnews.com to let them know what you think.

Maggie ads:  Though studies are sketchy as to the link between pornography and “deviant” behavior later in life, most of those studies are tainted by what is and is not considered “deviant.   In our culture, the “if it feels good, do it” philosophy tends to reign.  If both are consenting adults, even better.  No consequences.  Just “outlets”.  “Science” tends to follow this approach.  A degree in Individual and Family Development, I know the research, methods, and lies generally undergirding most studies.

God has a design for physical pleasure.  It’s a gift.  It’s fun.  It’s creative.  It’s fulfilling and useful and will be a blessing for two married people.  Trifling with that plan can cause a lot of long term pain  and turmoil.  With mixed scientific data, why am I opposed to pornography?  It takes what would otherwise be personal and private, fulfilling, and “holy” (set apart), and makes it cheap and free-for-all.

We’ve become way too desensitized as to what type of entertainment we allow into our homes.  Entertainment that walks in the face of God’s plan for marriage, purity, and relationships, moving us gradually toward mindsets that  entrap, stealing the joy in marriage that should be ours to cherish and enjoy.

If you are struggling in this area, there are all kinds of resources available to help you find God’s best design meant for you.  Visit www.fotf.org for excellent resources.

I think that Ron Paul was not treated fair in the debate or given a fair time to speak. RON PAUL IS THE ONLY ONE THAT TELLS THE TRUTH. FOX NEWS IS CONTROLLED BY BIG BASENESS. I WILL NOT WATCH FOX NEWS ENY MOOR.

God is a fancy fairy tale jews came up with a while ago to have someone to strike down their foes. While that – in and on itself – is an admirable goal, people like you, who continue to believe ludicrous madmen’s stories about some guy in the sky who has hidden cameras everywhere to watch people (nude), are pathetic.
…I neither fear you nor your ***** ‘superman’…).

Maggie: Your comment was edited for content. Respect is expected here. You seem quite angry and the post was not directed at any particular person, so I’m unclear as to why. We certainly are not going to wish cancer on anyone for having different opinions as you did {edited for inappropriate commenting}. I neither have any reason to fear you or your wish of cancer for me. Jesus Chirst does protect me, and he is my life’s hero from a lot of bad choices I’ve made (irregardless of your thoghts about Superman, who I compared him to in another post). I will not be visiting or emailing anyone who clearly shows a lack of respect for other people.

Magnanimity (derived from the Latin roots magn- great, and anima, soul) is the virtue of being great of mind and heart. It encompasses, usually, a refusal to be petty, a willingness to face danger, and actions for noble purposes. Its antithesis is pusillanimity. Both terms were coined by Aristotle, who called magnanimity "the crowning virtue."

Noah Webster's 1828 Dictionary of the American Language defines Magnanimity as such:

MAGNANIM'ITY, n. [L. magnanimitas; magnus, great, and animus, mind.] Greatness of mind; that elevation or dignity of soul, which encounters danger and trouble with tranquillity and firmness, which raises the possessor above revenge, and makes him delight in acts of benevolence, which makes him disdain injustice and meanness, and prompts him to sacrifice personal ease, interest and safety for the accomplishment of useful and noble objects.[1] (Source: Wikipedia)

Please know that I am not posting as an expert, but as a fellow traveler. I recommend that you research and double check things on your own before taking any advice or instruction from this site.  Information is given in good faith for the time period in which it was written. I am also an affiliate of the Sure Cuts A Lot software, for Cricut, which means you don't need Cricut cartridges to cut any font or .jpg on your computer.  I get some pocket change for introducing you if you choose to buy it by clicking on my site.  And we all know I need more cardstock, so I do appreciate it.  I sometimes review other products for a fee, but I am not required to give a positive review, and post honestly as to my experience.  I hope you find this useful.
