God Understands: As Spoken by a 13 Year Old

Chris posted this link today and I hadn’t seen it.  It’s awesome.  My husband will love it.  Here is the link:

http://www.godtube.com/view_video.php?viewkey=d5d4ee2c067a456e7c0f

Here is the explanation behind the video if you’re interested:

We have had a lot of requests to replay the phone call that Pastor Mike shared during our church service on Sunday, Nov. 11th, 2007. Here you’ll find the video clip that was created just for you. We’ve placed the video on YouTube so that you can watch it and share with family and friends. Logan is a 13 year-old boy who lives on a ranch in a very small town in Nebraska. Logan listens to Christian Radio station 89.3FM KSBJ which broadcasts from Houston, TX. Logan called the radio station distraught because he had to take down a calf . His words have wisdom beyond his years. Since airing the audio of the phone call and now the making of the video clip, it has taken on a life of its own. People are forwarding it all over the world. We encourage you to share the love of Christ with anyone you can. (**Sky Angel is a family safe broadcasting service that is offered on satellite. KSBJ is a local Houston Christian music radio station. Video clip produced with love by Frank Lozano. Hear the entire message at ValenicaHills.com)

“Farm kids” do gain wisdom beyond their years.  I know, I married one!

Caedmon Call’s song “Thankful”

I’ve always loved Caedmon Call’s “Thankful” and this is a great day to post it.  It’s one of those songs that stays stuck in my head like an old Rock song.  The feel is very Garfunkel…I just love the feeling of wanting to go get the washboard and doing some Andy Griffeth style ho-down.  There’s a harmonica duet at the end…we just got to get us some harmonica duels going on around here, they are so fun!  You just can’t help but smile to this song.

Check out the harmony, too.  I love harmony…I wish I were better at it!

Here’s another version from their first concert. I posted it because they used the original trash cans and have so much fun singing it. It’s live concert and just fun to watch.

Flowers from God: Volume 2, Autumn Video 2007

Well, here it is.  I had to upload it to youtube in a smaller file to fit all the pics in, but it’s still decent.

Nobody expected this after the drought!  Creater God, Lord of all Creation, “woo-ing” us all over again.

This was the song on the radio while I was driving around looking at nature the other day.  Loved snapping photos as it played.

Humble Me Video by Norah Jones

In concert, excellent quality

Norah Jones has the most beautiful, clear quality to her voice.  She articulates such depth.

This song, the chorus, hits me on days like today:

  “You humble me, Lord…

please, please, please, forgive me.

You humble me, Lord.”

Only songs like this can balance a song like that:

“Your Love is Deep”

…praise you.

Video: The More I Seek You by Kari Jobe (Click Title for Content of These Posts)

lords-cup.jpgas sung by Kari Jobe

The more I seek you…the more I find you

The more I find you…the more I love you

I want to sit at your feet, drink from the cup in your hand

Lay back against you and breathe, feel your heartbeat

This love is so deep…it’s more than I can stand

I melt in your peace, it’s overwhelming…

As I sat outside on our back bedroom deck this morning, throwing tennis balls to Daisy Dog, , the coolness of the morning falling on my thick houserobe, the word of the Lord from reading the night before so late continued to wash over me like the dew with my first morning thoughts:

“Clothe yourself in Christ”.  “You are a new creation, old things have passed away, behold, all things become new”.  “Rejoice in the Lord always.”  “Put on the full armor of Christ…and you will stand, for he is able to make you to stand.”  “Let the word of Christ dwell richly within you.”  “Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path, I will hide it’s word in my heart, that I may not sin against you.”  “I will drink of your river of delights” “Clothe yourself…in Christ”.

Oh!  How I want to clothe myself with Christ today.  To “put Him on”.  More than my desire to dress for the day.  More than my desire to eat, or sleep or “do”.  Let me put on Christ.  Let me give his patient grace and understanding.  Take away my judgment and criticism and harshness.  Give me your love.  Give me your eyes of compassion and healing and grace and acceptance and beauty.

For I am refreshed, renewed, held together, cleared up, soothed, entertained, awed, enriched, loved by you this morning!  Thank you, Lord, for the intensive reading of your word.  Thank you for the time.  Thank you for drawing me near and filling me.

You amaze me!  Astound me!  Overjoy me.  I totally adore you.  How mesmerizing you are!  Keep filling me with your word.  It is changing me.

Video: “Shackles” by Mary Mary

A few weeks ago, my mom forwarded me a video to “Shackles”, but it had some kind of shirt-less oriental superstar guy posing to the words–I don’t know, I guess I’m a little bit picky, but it just lost something on me.   I ribbed her so hard over that!  I’m not sure what his point was with the video!   I can just see my husband walking into the room with that video from my mom playing, ”Shackles” in the background, or not!  I’m just thinking that would not be going well for me!  :D

She said, “Well, I don’t watch the video!!!  My screensaver kicks on and I just listen to the music!”

I said, “Mom, download the song from youTube, and PULLEASE don’t forward that to ANYONE without explaining.”

“Oh!  Good grief!”  she said.

I mean, honestly, who watches youTube videos, right?  {oh, dear…rolling eyes over mom}

When did she get so…laid back on this sort of thing.  Does that come with Menapause, or what?

Anywooooo, (yeah, my mom is a hoot)…with larangytis, I’m into the music videos this week!

Here’s a good one, the original Mary Mary video.  It even has butterflies–my symbol of hanging onto the signs of hope this year, no matter how fleet-flitter-flying they may be!

Give it up for Mary Mary!

Video: “You Make Everything Glorious”–David Crowder Band

Another Crowder video…I know, I’m eat up.  I actually have a third in mind, so brace yourselves.  It’s just a Crowder kind of week over here, people.

But, give me credit, seems everywhere I go, people are referencing David Crowder this week!  Pondering this mystery, I think it’s probably in the changing of seasons–Crowder’s lyrics explodes our praise toward Creator God!

A new local blog personality in these parts, In This Communion, (go say howdy), referenced ”You Make Everything Glorious” by none other than David Crowder when I was catching up over there yesterday.  (Embarrassingly, I had not even heard the song!  How could I be behind on Crowder-ness?  I haven’t been under the weather THAT long!)

This morning, I thought of that word again  “Glorious”, when I saw this:

glorious3.jpg

Thought I’d better go have a listen, so here you go:  (…best graphics put to a song I think I’ve ever seen.)  Enjoy!

O Praise Him! David Crowder Band

Just have this in me today…nobody can sing it like David Crowder Band, that’s one thing for sure!  We saw him at Willow Creek this year and he rocked the house…just like this video.  True worshippers crawl out of the woodwork when he starts up the band.  Eccentric, funny, and deep, all at the same time.   The Hub and I were in heaven.

My Spring Tribute

I was saved on Easter.  It’s the day when I realized I couldn’t have a good relationship with the One who I thought was already my best friend, Jesus, until my sins were taken care of…until I received for my life the gift of his life.  His blood shed on the cross was the perfect sacrifice that once and for all took the place of my life, which was the payment required for my sins.  God sent his one and only son to die for me so that I did not have to pay the price for my own sin.  God can’t stand in the presence of sin, but now that my sins are paid for, His spirit can live and dwell in me as if I am a holy tabernacle…a dwelling place for Him.  And I love His company.  He made me.  He knows me.  He loves me…and He is the Perfect Everything.  There is no relationship to interfere with mind and His.  He is always caring, understanding, teaching, leading, guiding, disciplining me.  What would I be without Him?  I do not want to live a breath without him near, without His blessing.  And that’s why it’s a daily goal of mine to be more like him…to do what He tells me to do, and avoid what He says to avoid.  I struggle so much against my own selfishness at times.  But, his love and gentleness always draws me back on track.

So, here’s part of my Thanksgiving I’ve been putting together celebrating new life.  Hope you like them.

Let me know if you can think of a good song that that goes and sounds celebratory…I tried several times and couldn’t find a song that went with the slides.   Click to View at GodTube:  My Spring Tribute Video

Keep Your Eyes (More) Pure Using youTube

The scriptures tell us to be thoughtful in the way that we live, not as unwise, but wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.  That means that we are to know that we live in precarious times…we need to watch our step, and yet try to make a difference where we can, both at the same time.

As a bit of a retraction (am I allowed that?), due to some conversations and input, I am no longer boycotting youTube as a whole… only their ads.  I hope you’ll stick with me and read why without thinking me fickle.

First, I need to answer some questions and give some tips as to how to use youTube to avoid those “visual land mines” where we know they exist:

1.   Use the “My Favorites” and “Subscriptions” tools.  When you use the “subscribe” feature, you can subscribe to trusted author’s videos whom you’ve enjoyed in the past.  When they put out something new, just check your
“subscriptions” tab and see all the new stuff they’ve put out since you visited last.  This keeps you from wandering arounnd where you perhaps should not be quite as much.   I currently have more in My Subscrotions to watch than I’d ever have time to watch.

2.  Use the Search Feature… to selectively choose topics you are interested in rather than giving your mind room to wander, explore, and be entertained filtering through whatever has been published today.  I bookmark videos my kids are allowed to watch.  My kids are not allowed to free surf on youTube.

3.   Watch for “visual land mines”!   If you are a Christian, hopefully you’ve addressed this issue already, I don’t know how guys do it, but don’t be unwise to Satan’s schemes.  Know that MANY people, men and women are getting addicted to internet pornography…there is an appeal innate in us that is drawn to what seems forbidden and “out there”.   Do not just randomly just explore “what’s out there”just to “see what’s out there.  Trust me, if it CAN happen…it’s out there to see.  Curiosity killed the cat.   Don’t research in the name of ministry.  There are minister porn addiction stories coming out every day due to that excuse.

4.  Report!  (Why take the time?)  Why?  That helps them filter “live!”  There is no way they alone can filter alone all the bulk.  Don’t look for it, or click on it, but if you find it by accident, report it.

————————————–
So, why did I just give you tips to use youTube when I said I was boycotting youTube?  HA!  I’m just that fickle!  No…because I realized my main trouble with youTube right now is with their ads…other things are just internet responsibilty we are going to have to learn.

Today at my church, there was a strong message that we, as Christians, need to be known for “what we are for…not so much for what we are against”.  Definitely!!!  That’s the kind of person I want to be–more concerned about people’s salvation than destracted and Satan’s diversions.  We can get so wound up in reactivity, “issues”, and “social concerns” that we have no time to win the lost!  Satan still wins!  But, oh, church!  Let’s not react to reactions.  Let’s respond in the obedient character and nature of Christ:  full of both grace and truth.

Rob “Rounds Me Out” on youTube/mySpace

Rob over at eministrynotes.compresented “the other side of the coin” on the youTube issue  as we talked a bit by email this morning.   I respect the work Rob and his team does to try to make the web a tool we can use for ministry and discipleship.  But first things first: congrats go to www.eministynotes.com

Outreach Magazine has put together their Top 20 Web Sites for Church Communicators for 2007 where…you’ll find 20 killer sites that can inspire you, save you time and help you do your job right. In short, they make your life easier. Isn’t the Web a wonderful thing?  I’m kinda partial to number 14 [www.eministrynotes.com] ;-) –Rob

So, the esteemed Rob’s point on this subject was the we can choose to be light in the dark, just as we can be with a presence at myspace and other social networking type avenues out there

While youTube may not be the best service to host and share my baptism videos or home family videos, there is still room for Christians to post things there to attempt to bring light.   I hope we CAN make a difference in the ads seen there.  I think we can!

End result?  Let’s keep our avenues open for ministry, and decide when those same avenues may not be appropriate for families.   While it may not sound like both can co-exist, they can.  It’s hard to know where to draw the line.  For instance, our church youth group put up a myspace slideshow last week on their “new spot”.  The first middle ad on that spot for that day, in between Compassion International type ads we COULD choose was this main banner THEY chose for us…

( I can’t upload it at the moment.  Showed Tyra Banks in a strapless bikini with the question:  “Is Tyra Banks fat?” )

I chose to not put up with that kind of advertising I have no control over on my own website.  But, that is a risk we are taking to try to engage in the culture of our youth, myspace is so much a part of their culture today.  I hate to think my son is almost near the age of having to address it at all, and pray we can build other platforms that respect our values more.  Lord, help!

Back to youTube:  in researching today, I found that youTube DOES post a code of conduct to help keep lewdness and “shock value videos” down so that the heinous things I mentioned yesterday can be checked.  Here are the guides :  (http://www.youtube.com/t/community_guidelines).   ALSO, there is also a way to flag a video as inappropriate.   I did not click on the video to do so.  Just avoided it and got disgusted.  We NEED to stay involved and keep that stuff pushed back from mainstream.

It’s hard to walk on both sides of the fence depending on goals and mission, but that’s what each of us must do.  Thanks so much Rob, for “rounding me out”, and thanks for inviting me also to respond to your web ministry post on the subject when you get it up presenting the “family point of view”.  When that goes up, I’ll invite you to go check it out.

Walk Strong!

Magnanimity (derived from the Latin roots magn- great, and anima, soul) is the virtue of being great of mind and heart. It encompasses, usually, a refusal to be petty, a willingness to face danger, and actions for noble purposes. Its antithesis is pusillanimity. Both terms were coined by Aristotle, who called magnanimity "the crowning virtue."

Noah Webster's 1828 Dictionary of the American Language defines Magnanimity as such:

MAGNANIM'ITY, n. [L. magnanimitas; magnus, great, and animus, mind.] Greatness of mind; that elevation or dignity of soul, which encounters danger and trouble with tranquillity and firmness, which raises the possessor above revenge, and makes him delight in acts of benevolence, which makes him disdain injustice and meanness, and prompts him to sacrifice personal ease, interest and safety for the accomplishment of useful and noble objects.[1] (Source: Wikipedia)
