YouTube Ad Protest Has Begun

March 22, 2007

It may be a protest of 1.  I don’t know.  But, it’s got to start somewhere.

I am officially fed up with the ad content in the sidebars of youTube.  If WordPress can embed video from GodTube, I may go to that for my videohosting, or anywhere else.  If you use youTube videos or watch them there, I would suggest that the ads showing women for singles adverts have gone way too far–let me know if you can find out how to let them know we aren’t so happy.

I’m not sure yet how to let our voice be known on it, but when I can’t host a family oriented video there anymore and send the link to my Dad or brothers or friends…it’s gone way too far.

Agree 100%. My guys use this and I really don’t like it.
If you find a more family-friendly alternative, please share.

    Hi, n1accord!

I mentioned GodTube.com. I plan to host some there, and have heard that Google video hosting is some better.

i hadn’t ever paid attention before — actually, I just went over to the site to see it, and I still didn’t see any ads – just featured videos. Obviously, I’m looking in the wrong spot…

I was looking for a video the other day and noticed that there are several video hosting sites — I hadn’t realized that either, so, I’ll have to look into those.

thanks for the heads up on this issue.

    Blessings,
    Karla

Oops. You must hate my blog then. I love the vids I find on YouTube. However, I must admit, I’ve never noticed the ads you’ve mentioned. I guess I’m just used to tuning out everything and focus on what I’m heading to.

I can understand, though, why you’d feel that way.

I totally agree with you. Some of the things that POP up there are not very appealing to the soul…

    Thanks guys.

I’ll try to post an example, as much as I hate post something here of poor taste.

I hate all the crappy vids that are allowed to be posted there. I’m not sure why they can’t monitor those better and at least sort out the inappropriate stuff into different categories or something. I’m all for free speech, but it need not be so easily accessible. Why couldn’t they make a YouTube Family site, for instance? Like ABC family. Family-friendly vids and ads.

Misty, know that with youTube there are some good tools to use. You can find authors who tend to post certain content you enjoy, ad all their incoming work to be publishes to your favorite videos tab. I usually have more good stuff than I have time to view that way.

Generally, I stick with My Videos, and My Subscriptions for that reason.

Also, people CAN tag videos as inappropriate, which we should all do if we see one…it’s the only way to keep them out of mainstream.

THE PROBLEM I AM HAVING WITH youTUBE AS THE MOMENT IS WITH THEIR LEWD, DISTATSTEFUL CHOICES OF SINGLES CLUB ADVERTISING LATELY. I don’t want to go grab a link for a video and have to see lewd ad content.

I have effective adblockers on my browser so I don’t recall seeing them. I can’t stand YouTube for many reasons. If this is the case, this is just one more reason for not liking them. Unfortunately, until wordpress starts permitting hosting videos from GodTube I have little alternative.

I have recently been adding clips of old family movies on 8mm film to YouTube for sharing with family and friends. YouTube always includes a section called “Related Videos” with every video viewed. Lately, I’ve noticed “Related Videos” that aren’t related at all, with objectionable images in the thumbnail image. I do not want to subject family and friends to these images when they go to YouTube to watch the 8mm clips.

YouTube does not allow me to control the “Related Videos” content, so I am thinking of removing all my videos and cancelling my YouTube account. When I find a family friendly YouTube alternative, I’ll use it to share the 8mm clips with family and friends.

Magnanimity (derived from the Latin roots magn- great, and anima, soul) is the virtue of being great of mind and heart. It encompasses, usually, a refusal to be petty, a willingness to face danger, and actions for noble purposes. Its antithesis is pusillanimity. Both terms were coined by Aristotle, who called magnanimity "the crowning virtue."

Noah Webster's 1828 Dictionary of the American Language defines Magnanimity as such:

MAGNANIM'ITY, n. [L. magnanimitas; magnus, great, and animus, mind.] Greatness of mind; that elevation or dignity of soul, which encounters danger and trouble with tranquillity and firmness, which raises the possessor above revenge, and makes him delight in acts of benevolence, which makes him disdain injustice and meanness, and prompts him to sacrifice personal ease, interest and safety for the accomplishment of useful and noble objects.[1] (Source: Wikipedia)
